Demolition on the building site for the future Australian Institute for Infectious Disease (AIID) facility is progressing at pace. Demolition has been completed on the smallest of the buildings and a car park, allowing machinery to access the heart of the site and commence works on the other larger buildings from within.
Internal strip-out and roof demolition of 780 Elizabeth Street is complete and structural demolition has commenced. The project’s early works contractor Kane is diverting at least 90% of demolition materials from landfill in support of the AIID’s commitment to sustainability throughout the building’s delivery. Demolition and enabling works will continue on-site through to late 2025.
Meanwhile the Operations and Activation Project Control Group has been undertaking significant work to consider and plan how the facility will ultimately run. This has included workshops to map and detail staffing requirements, developing an AIID Operational Management Framework and strategising the development of standard operating procedures. The work of this group is critical to ensuring the AIID facility and the Foundation Partners within it are able to function effectively and cohesively from the very first day the building opens.
