The future site of the Australian Institute for Infectious Disease (AIID) facility is humming with activity as demolition commences.
With the necessary permits secured in late 2024, work has commenced to remove building canopies, erect gantries and scaffolding, and commence demolition on the existing buildings.
To the south of the building site, Haymarket Walk has been closed and will remain closed throughout both the demolition phase and the construction of the new facility. Signage has been erected to guide pedestrian detours through this time.
While every effort will be made to minimise disruptions during demolition, there will be some unavoidable impacts which the AIID Project Team will communicate alongside any mitigations to immediate neighbours of the building site.
Full demolition and clearance of the building site is expected to be completed towards the end of 2025.
Meanwhile, work has continued towards completing the design development stage of the facility in anticipation of commencing the main works tender process in the coming months.
The commencement of demolition brings the AIID facility one step closer to reality and we look forward to sharing further updates as work progresses.
