An evening with Anders Nordström

“Global health is something that belongs to all of us. It’s also our common responsibility.”

That was a central message from former Swedish Global Health Ambassador, Anders Nordström when he spoke at an Australian Institute for Infectious Disease (AIID) event last month.

Anders shared his wealth of experience from an illustrious career in various advisory and leadership roles including as the Secretariat for the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, and serving as the World Health Organisation (WHO) Acting Director General, Assistant Director General for General Management Health Systems and Services, and Head of The WHO Country Office in Sierra Leone as the Interim Executive Director. He also established the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in 2002.

Anders delivered a key-note speech to a captive audience at the Doherty Institute Auditorium on Friday 26 April, spanning his wealth of experience from attending G8 summits, meeting with President Bush and other world leaders, officially declaring the 2015 Ebola outbreak over, and moving in political circles to negotiate global health outcomes.

The AIID, VicHealth and Australian Global Health Alliance thank Anders for his generosity of time and knowledge. A recording of his presentation can be viewed below.
