AIID facility update – December 2023

Enabling works around the Australian Institute for Infectious Disease (AIID) building site have commenced. A telecommunications tower has been relocated from the AIID site to a mid-term temporary location, and CitiPower has commenced works to underground the powerlines along Berkeley Street.

The latter has necessitated traffic and pedestrian disruptions along Berkeley Street, with a pedestrian path temporarily closed and traffic reduced to one lane. Traffic management is onsite to assist vehicles and pedestrians navigate the changes, as shown on the traffic management plan below.

Works will continue to the final week of December, and we thank users of Berkeley Street for their patience during this time.

An early works contractor to lead demolition and site preparation will be signed imminently, with significant works to begin on site in February 2024. We look forward to announcing the successful tenderer in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, work is continuing onsite to vacate and prepare buildings on site for early works, scheduled to commence in February 2024. Read about how sustainability is at the heart of this process in our sustainability news update.
